Security is a serious business. A security guard is generally the first responder in most security concerns, and generally the first person people seek in a time of emergency. If a security guard has an important duty to perform, think about the person that leads them. Yeah, we’re talking about the leaders of the security team: our security guard supervisors.
Some of the most underrated “heroes” of the #SecureGuard family have to be our field supervisors. Aside from being highly trained, they come with a complete understanding of the requirements and guidelines of each location. Our security supervisors manage a team of security guards that are constantly evolving their practices in order to thrive in being above industry standards.
A good security supervisor leads with courage, strength, honor, energy and intelligence. This way, they’re setting an example before their team. Field supervisors hold responsibility for their work along with the safety and security of their clients and guards on post as well. Our supervisor’s duty go beyond getting daily activity reports or assigning the routine jobs to the guards. In short, they are leaders who know how to guide the team and live up to the expectations.
Here are some traits our security guard field supervisors carry as leaders of our family:
1. Being Skilled and Knowledgeable:
Being a leader requires you to be knowledgeable with critical thinking skills. An efficient security supervisor is knowledgeable about the risks and dangers to the people, assets, and properties of our client, and possesses skills to sense vulnerabilities by implying practical security measures.
Apart from identifying and preventing the security risks, an effective security leader like our supervisors, are updated with the current industry trends, technology and training. Their knowledge and training also help them quickly adapt to the dynamic risk environment.
2. Possessing the Ability to Think Fast:
Our supervisors know how to calm people down when an emergency strikes or things go out of control. Effective leaders have the ability to judge and make quick decision to manage the situation. They don’t quickly jump into a situation without considering the consequences. For example, a good security leader knows how to rescue the people from a fire outbreak before the arrival of the firefighters. It goes without saying that this skill makes a huge difference when they are encountering a security risk.
3. Having Effective Communication Skills:
Effective communication across the team is a crucial factor in managing a tricky situation successfully. A good security guard supervisor knows how to effectively communicate and resolve issues on the basis of reliable information. During their evening patrols while visiting sites they’re assigned to look over, they will make sure the security guard on post is not just doing their job, but also feels safe. In certain parts of town, it can be a bit intimidating, but our supervisors regularly visit our guards and equip them in order to be prepared for the worst. It is important that our security guards and supervisors have a strong bridge of understanding with one another. By setting up clear and timely communication, together they can diffuse or prevent dangerous situations or violence from occurring on site.
4. Maintaining Honesty and Integrity:
From handling areas with sensitive information, checking identification, observing operations to taking care of a property, there are many situations where a security officer is supposed to be discreet and honest; honesty and integrity are the fundamental of this business. We make sure our security guards understand this by leading by example. This is why we only promote and have supervisors who’ve displayed years of honesty and integrity amongst the entire team. We make sure everyone understands and respects one another for this reason–both on and off duty.
5. Motivating the Team:
Let’s accept it. Exhaustive duty hours and stressful situations can lead to meltdown among security guards–no matter how many times security companies claim that they have the “best of the best” security guards. The role of a security supervisor is important in such scenario. He is the one who picks them up and inspires them to perform better. Under the energetic and charismatic security leader, the team always feels positive, encouraged and inspired.
