Places of Worshipwelcome people in with open doors but that can leave their members vulnerable to someone with bad intentions or in distraught. Case in point, the shooting in the Pittsburg Synagogue, The Tree of Life where the shooter killed 11 individuals, the shooting at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) church in downtown Charleston, SC where an attacker took the lives of nine individuals, and now, the shooting at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, which as of this writing, left 26 individuals dead and 20 wounded.
Places of worship, whether they be a Church, a Synagogue, a Mosque, a Temple are unique and have its own challenges and factors to consider. Religious facility security details should not be cookie cutter and created specifically for the needs of its congregation, members and neighborhood.

Creating a safety and security committee within the members of the congregation.
Examine the current emergency/crisis plan with updated details, including surrounding neighborhood issues.
Utilize recommended security technology. Security technologies are becoming more and more available and easy to utilize such as camera systems, access control, communications, notification systems and many more. Secure Guard Consultants and Officers are highly trained in implementing the latest technological systems.
It is a sad reflection of society to see an armed guard at a place of worship, but sometimes it is necessary. If this is something you are not comfortable with, you may consider requesting local law enforcement during times of service or consider teaming with Secure Guard for our armed guard services.
